This must be one of those regional differences, just like so many other things on this forum.

I'm not absolutely sure, but I think the cities take bids, so I imagine WM bids differently in different areas depending on lots of factors, such as distance from one of their landfills, number of homes to pick up from, number of times per week to make pickups, size limitations on items to pick up, bags, cans, or cans that can be handled by the one man trucks, and maybe even the workforce available in the area, and fuel costs. So I guess we're among the luckier ones, since every Monday, they'll take just about anything we put out there, and I can also take stuff to the landfill myself 7 days a week at no cost.
