Ok.. for any LEO's out there.. I've got a question for you.

( here's the basics of the situation )

I was driving home late monday night and got pulled over. Tag light out. I thought it was bulbs.. but turned out to be the little connectors ont he back had pulled out and were just hanging... ( still.. same difference ).

Police officer pulled out and I stopped and pulled over.. pretty much just sat there. About 30 seconds later.. i could see his 'backup' unit show up behind his car.

He walked over showed me how bright his mag light was ( very bright considering they shine it in your face while asking you for your license! ) As he was looking a tthe license, he states why he stopped me. Calls in the license ( clean of course /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif ), hands it back, tells me to get it fixed and walks off. ( nothing to sign.. verbal warning right?

Here's my question. Does that call in 'count' for anything.. Is that 'logged' somewhere? If i were pulled over for some reason again.. would that previous pull over have any effect?

By the way.. I was pulle dover in front of a 24 hr wall-mart so I went over and fixed the taglamp before going home.. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

thanks

I'm not in law enforcement, but from what I understand, unless there is something written down (i.e. you sign a written warning) it technically was just a routine traffic check and no notations exist. I say that because many years ago, I managed to get 3 warnings going to Florida on spring break. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif Whew! Two were on the way down, and one was on the way back. I'd think that if anything was entered into the system as a "warning", I would have been ticketed on the last two stops.

I know in MA you can get three written warnings within 3 years (no more) then your insurance goes up. Warnings, not tickets.

verbal is just that. But they do track, at least in Ma, how many times a plate was "run" in the puter....

See.. that's what I'm wondering about. He did call my license in. No ticket.. nothing to sign.. bthat call in makes me wonder how long that stays in the system.. etc.

Nope , Your won't have a record following you around now . If it is a real small area you live in, your name might pop up between officers as they seem to get to know the trouble makers pretty quick and warning's are very seldom granted over tickets . He ran a 10-28 & 29 on you . Wants ,warrants, that sort of thing . You would be amazed how often the police nail someone for past offenses doing this . It is standard procedure . Now if he pulls you over in the future for the same thing vehicle safety violation ,I would imagine that you will get a ticket .
The Flashlite thing is also a standard procedure as it temporary blinds you and gives the officer a fighting chance should you be a problem child .
If you are pulled over in the future , Keep both hands on the steering wheel with your fingers extended while talking to him . You should see him relaxed some and it just might get you out of a deserved ticket to boot .

I know that. Verbal is "just that" and written is a ticket but a warning that you can put on the frig! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I am not a LEO here. Just know many since my old man was a state one.

The only thing that was tracked in their pc was who ran what plate. That is it.

I think BigAl answered very well. Unless your state is very different from Texas, you have nothing to worry about. In fact, sometimes officers run a check on a license plate number without even stopping the vehicle and the owner of that vehicle never even knows the check was made.

You betcha! Fortunately I haven't been stopped in many years for any reason, but I somehow ended up very luck with only warnings. I attribute part of that to being extremely cooperative and respectful to the officer; (not brown-nosing; there is a difference) even when some were somewhat less than professional. I believe there is a lot to be said about proper "protocol" when being stopped. If you don't believe me, just try telling the next officer who pulls you over "Don't forget Copper, I pay your salary". /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif You'll cut down on warnings that way. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif
