That's FARMING New Guy
My wife and I just bought a farmhouse on 22.5 acres here in hilly southwestern Pennsylvania. Both of us grew up in suburbia and have never done any farming. We started gardening after getting married and enjoy it (we've even grown a few vegetables!
)
We decided country life is best for us and our son, so we're excited about the new place. House needs a good bit of work (built in 1869), so that's where my focus is right now. We did start a garden for this year though, and will be expanding as time goes on.
Never run a tractor in my life.
Right now I need something to keep the grass down around the house this summer, get the snow off the drive come winter. I don't know if the smartest move is having a mower and a tractor or getting one machine to do everything. I'm researching to figure it out, and hopefully folks here can help me out- and give me some farming advice as we go along with our new place. In any case, I need to figure something out soon- even if it's paying the kid down the road for a little while- we're getting plenty of rain and that grass grows quick.
