Fluid change

Ok. So I'm doing my own CK25 maintainance. I was a bit apprehensive but really not too hard. Biggest problem was the overflowing pan when I changed the hydraulic fluid. Guess I should have put the plug back in nad changed pans!

I noticed on the end of the drain plug is a magnet and there were small metal filings on the magnet. Is this normal?

Also a bit confused about how things work.
1. I assume the hydraulic fluid works both the loader and the HST transmission. So why the gear oil in the front axle? Doesnt the hydraulic reach this area? Sorry I'm new to all this.
2. Why a split brake ? I can understand that using only one brake will allow for a tight turn but I cannot seem to be able to depress one brake and gas pedal at the same time?

Overall I'm having a blast and learning about my Kioti. Tonight I do the air filter, clean up the engine bay and grease the fittings.

I assuming this is your first fluid change. Yes, lots of buckets on hand is a good idea as there is a surprising amount of hydraulic fluid that seems to come out forever. When I did mine I put old carpet and lots of newpapers underneath for the "just in case".

The drain plug often has a few bits of metal on it, especially on the first change. Should only be very small pieces. The metal is new and has been rubbing together, a bit can come off. Lots of metal is bad.

The front axel is separate from the transmission, same as a car or truck, it is a separate component.

Not sure about the brake.

As noted, you do need to change the front axle oil separately. Be careful when you do it to double check the oil level window SEVERAL times after you have moved and used the tractor for 5 minutes or so. Sometimes the oil level looks higher than it really is and you can actually be low on oil after the oil gets redistributed. Good idea to check the little axle oil window whenever you grease the tractor.

When I check the front axle level do I look through the window to see if the fluid is up to the window or is it OK to remove the window plug and fill till it overflows at the sight glass? I ask because its tough to see the level on my window. Glass seems a bit opaque.

Glass should be clear. Not sure what would make it opaque, maybe paint over spray or solvent? No matter what, I'd ask the dealer for a new sight glass if you can't get yours to where you can see in it. The sight ins't expensive, nor hard to change out. Pulling the sight and filling to overflow could get pretty messy, and you want it to about the top of the glass, which will be hard to judge when filling by that method. It will also spill out the sight glass hole well before it's full. Use 90 weight oil in the front axle, not UTF.

I'm confused as to where the sight window is located? Have looked at front axle and service manual and can't find it. I have a Ck30hst.

On the DK40se it is left side about 18 inches from the tire on the back side of the axle. I don't have any experience with the CK30.
