Kansas is being hit hard right now with flu patients at the hospitals. I haven't had it since 1996 and I will never forget it.

I was surprised how many people die from it every year. Its in the thousands. And we were worried about Ebola.

Sorry for those that get the flu. I am 56, the youngest of eight and have two grown children. I have never had the flu so don't know what it is like. I see others who have had it and cannot relate to their misery.

I hear the flu shot is a guess at what it will protect you from. I have not and will not get a flu shot. Not worth it.

I'm sure lots of people have the flu, and many die from it, but I wonder how many people actually have something else and think it's the flu. Our youngest daughter was sick for 3 weeks with an upper respiratory infection; fortunately got pretty well over it a couple of days before Christmas. And my wife's sister has been sick several days, finally got in to see her doctor today, and also diagnosed as an upper respiratory infection.

When I used to get flu shots working at my school- I still got the flu, 1 or 2 real bad ones every year. We'd watch it progress through the school. Hand washing and keeping my distance seemed to make a real difference. I always made sure I didn't visit people when I was ill, or get too close to others - hard to do when at work.
