I recently bought a Parker F800S "Color Band" flow control valve. It is supposed to limit flow in one direction and provide unrestricted flow in the other direction. It came with no instructions, and it has no directional markings on the valve body. Does anyone know the proper way to install this, before I pipe it up and then have to reverse it?

Screw in, clockwise, the control, and use air pressure to check what direction is unrestricted....

Then you gotta decide if you are going to restrict oncylinder meter in or meter out.....If gravity and inertia (like on a FEL or the swing on a crane) can make your cylinder go faster in that direction you want to control, I would suggest meter out....but doing that on the cylinder rod side, you have to be aware of the risk for over pressureize the meter out side....

Meter out restriction on a motor require that motor is designed for pressure on that side (like a bidirectional motor)

If the cylinder only do frictional load (like a log splitter), I suggest the meter in side...

Can you describeplease what the cylinder set up is...lifting, lowering, frictional...?

Thanks for your reply. I added a lift to an existing logsplitter. The pump operates the 4" splitter cylinder OK, but the 2.5" lift cylinder extends too fast, so I bought the flow control valve to slow it down.

A google on that valve brings up the schematics and cross-section of how it works.
Control knob is located toward one end,

Slowing down on lifting load and extending cylinder...right...then restrict flow into capped side of cylinder...
