HELP!
I'm flooring a 25-ton equip. trailer with rough 2-inch white oak. My trailer has 3 sets of 4 wheels ( two 2-foot axles in each set, which evenly spaces the wheels across the trailer). My question is, what's the best way to acess the center wheels for service? I have double channel beams across the trailer on each side and between the sets of tires. The beams have a 1 1/2 in. space between each pair. I'm thinking about flooring the entire trailer, putting hinges between the center sets of boards, then cutting the boards down the gaps between the beams. I could do thie over each of the six inside wheels and create a trap door over each wheel for airing, greasing and changing purposes.
Has anybody had any experience in this, (maybe with a better idea)? Any suggestions or encouragement will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,

A picture would be helpful. That being said the ideas you have all sound good to me.

I fixed truck tires for a job back in college, I've never seen any kind of access from above the trailer. I don't see how opening a trap door from above could be less work than sliding under the trailer on a creeper. Also don't see how you could do anything related to changing a tire from above. Maybe I don't understand the kind of axle arrangement you're desribing, but you definitely want gravity on your side when you take off a truck tire.

Can you post a pic? I am thinking you have a tire on each side of the I beam frame? 1 on the inside, 1 on the outside? Old trailer?
