I mostly use float when pushing snow on a paved surface. The other time I might use it is when moving a full bucket of dirt. Rather than lifting it (limited by weight), I leave the bucket on the ground, with bucket lip tipped up some, and float. The little BX will push a lot more dirt than it can lift, especially if the dirt is loose.
