JD 301A
Hi - I have a JD301A and the FEL float mode is engaged by pushing the lever all the way forward. The lever should remain there but instead it always moves back to neutral. To use the float, I have to hold the lever pushed forward so this is not a good solution. In the attached images, the lever in is neutral. When I move it forward there is a detent about half way, when I push beyond this I get the float mode. The second picture shows the underside when in float position - the small rod near the top projects out about 1/2 - 3/4" when the lever is pushed forward. Any ideas if there is an easy fix (or should I just rig some sort of catch to hold the lever forward)? IMG_2110.JPGIMG_2115.JPG

Most valves have the detent assembly built into the valve. JD has good parts breakdown on their website I would recommend looking at that.

I bet your detent spring is worn or needs adjustment/

Many detent assemblies are fixed to the end of a spool with a cap screw, (or socket head cap screw) and the screw loosened up. Does the neutral position seem firm and tight?
You can carefully remove the whole cartridge assembly from the end of the valve body and check that cap screw. Use a pie plate and/or a light colored towel under your work area, and beware of balls and/or springs flying out.
