Sounds like it might be similar to the MF set-up on the 2310; rather than spring-loaded balls, the MF 2310 uses a split ring that "pops" over the end of the float detent rod when it's pushed all the way forward. Split ring is at the base of the cap. All is located under a cap on the forward/underside of the FEL control valve.
