I did not want to add this to my other post since it was a bit different question than what I originally posted.
My question is should a flail mower have a slip clutch or a sheer pin? The one I recently got does not and I am not sure if there should be one. One idea what that there is in internal clutch or the idea is the belts just slip if something jams up?
(mine is a Taylor Turbomower 64 if that matters)
THANKS

It should have neither. The belts are your protection. Make sure they are tensioned properly and that the spring tensioner moves freely(if it has one).

Slip clutch is an unnecessary expense, the flail belt(s) will slip before a properly adjusted clutch slips. But definitely go with an appropriate grade shear pin (I'm guessing SAE grade 2 or metric class 4.6). It will protect your tractor against a catastrophic lockup of the flail on the transmission side of the belts.

As mentioned by my friends Hooked on HP and Greg_G no slip clutch is needed.

You should have a shear pin located in the base of one or both of the Yokes if the PTO shaft has them BUT;

The V belts are your actual safety valve.

Just be sure to purchase the right replacement Kevlar V belts now AND be doubly SURE that they are the same manufacturing lot number. take the belts to NAPA, TSC, PEP BOYS, Menards, KAMAN etc if they are illegible(stampings gone in the belt cover) and they will get the right belt for you.

Hello Scott,

If your Bomford Turner is one of the three
in the manual that I e-mailed to you it
will weigh 750 to 850 Kilograms;

You may want to purchase front weights for
the tractor if the rears are not loaded.
