Flail Mower flail mower on JD 755

JD 755 under 25 HP. I would like to know if this tractor can handle the Caroni 47" flail mower. I have 3-4 acres of horse pasture grass to mow.
Class 1/3 point hitch. 540 at PTO. I don't want to over tax the tractor. Or is there another flail mower that would be appropriate for this model tractor. I have researched several flail mowers and the price on this model is very good and seems to have good reviews. I am open to suggestions.

Caroni's recommendation is 20-40hp, so you're at the very bottom of that - 755 should have about 20hp. (15hp at the PTO, but I believe Caroni's recommendation is tractor HP.)

You're at the very bottom of the requirements for the mower. How long of grass do you intend to mow? Most flail mowers will be similar and 47" is already on the smallest end. I'd probably consider a self-powered, tow-behind rough cut mower if I was you... but it will not do well with rocks/etc. like a flail will.

Since you have a hydrostatic transmission you can run your flail mower just as fast as you have power for. It would be slower in tall grass and faster in the short stuff. Just my opinion.

Most manu's HP recommendations are based on worst case scenarios for a given implement, so if you are cutting very heavy growth, or tall growth, or worse yet, both, you may find you need more power. If the growth is reasonably thin and/or not terribly tall, you will most likely be fine. Unless you just don't want the clippings left behind to be long, you may want to look at a small sickle mower.

How do hp requirements for rototillers compare with flail mowers? A 755 has no difficulties whatsoever with a 48" tiller, and with a flail, after a first pass, you have the option of taking less than a full width cut.

Interesting. I would think a tiller would take a lot more HP than a flail mower, by far.

My tractor was at the bottom HP range for the 6' KK tiller I have, but it runs is great. It produces 33 PTO HP, or 5.5 HP per foot. The 755 has 15 PTO HP or 3.75 HP per foot, well below the recommended range it seems.

Perhaps a 48" flail would be just fine. Does the OP have a place where he can try it out before he buys?

Welcome to the forum.
NOW "we as group" can help
you with the serious issues of
flailmowers.

assuming it is the TL1200FSC you want to use_

you will not overtax the tractor as long as you mow slowly at first.

You will not over tax the tractor as long as you keep the
debris screen free of crap while mowing.

As long as you set it up properly you will not have problems.

The fine cut flail mower will shred the clippings to small pieces AND
you will be able to go over them a second time to shred them
again if you wish.

When you get it home ask questions because you have to set it up the
right way otherwise you will have problems with the quality of cut.
