Flail Mower Flail Mower...Confusion

/ Flail Mower...Confusion #21
If you want to flail rough stuff make sure that the flail you get is not belt driven. One of the flails at work is (a JD), and while it works great for most of what we use it for when it gets into taller stuff or blackberry type stuff and starts to really bog down the belt will start to slip. Two choices at that point - back off (slow down) or fry the belt :)...

/ Flail Mower...Confusion #22
The Ford 7710 I recently purchased has a Turner ditch mower on it, and is hydraulicly driven. The blades on it are a lot heavier than my JD Flail mower and I have already used the ditch mower to remove small trees with, starting at the top of them and just lowering the flail mower down on them. When it gets to about 3" you have to slow down a little or it wants to balk a little, but up to that, it is pretty much a free fall. I got a new set of blades with it, but figured on using the old ones till they died. I really do need to sharpen them, as the company I purchased it from didn't sharpen blades, they just replace them. (must be nice to have that kind of $)
