I ran across a Rhino RHD88 which looks like a rebadged Alamo super heavy duty 88" mower. The seller has it listed for a fair price and I'm wondering how the Rhino/Alamo would cut compared to my Deere 25A. I don't have any complaints with the Deere. It's runs smooth and cuts well. The Alamo has a wider cutting swath which would be nice for trimming fields. My Deere has the duck foot style flails and the Rhino has Y shaped cutters. Will there be a noticeable difference in cut quality. I mainly cut tall grass and very light brush no trees. Would it be worthwhile to trade up?

How wide is your Deere flail? The Y blades will cut brush better, but won't lift stuff that lays down as well as the duck foot blades. You can use either style blades on either flail. So it comes down to is the width worth the cost? If you feel it is worth it for the extra width, than go for it. Otherwise don't bother. Both flails have a good reputation. Rhino is part of Alamo now. Good luck, and let us know what you decide.

The Deere 25A has a 78" cut. Even with worn out duck foot blades it cuts pretty well. Mowed some of this field today grass was about 6" high. The Deere flail always stripes really nice. Not sure if the Alamo will cut like that.

I think you’re talking about 2 real good flail mowers here, both or either will serve you well. I do a lot of flailing in my vineyard, and currently am using a new coroni with the Wye blades for last years cane debris, but I will not ever let my 30+ year old Mott with the Duck foot blades go.

I think the Deere 25 is as good or better than the Mott/Alamo, and you know what condition your machine is in.Seems like other than a slightly larger cut, it’s a wash

The Alamo will do the same with the same blades. Duckfoot and Y blades are different. If you want lawn type cut with stripes, you will need duck foot blades on either unit. Not sure the 10 inch additional cut width will be able to be justified monetarily. You could buy the Alamo, try it then decide which to keep. They both are quality mowers, so you shouldn't lose much on either selling. I don't think I would for 10", but you may. Good luck.

I have a Deere 390 flail and have had other brands previously. The Deere will definitely be a better painted machine. Should look nicer longer. I havent noticed one having a distinct mechanical advantage over the other.
