Got an hour in between yesterday and today.
Went to Detroit Michigan for 11/3/2005 prostate surgery.
Wasn't allowed to use the tractor or do any strenuous activity for 6 to 8 weeks.
Today marks the end of the 8 weeks.
I just got the official word from my doctor today that the operation was successful.

Fellows If you're over 40 I can't stress strongly enough how important it is to get an annual PSA test and The physical exam.
It could very well save your life. It did mine.
I was shocked when I learned how prevalent prostate cancer is. The chances of developing it are probably much greater than most people realize.

LB...
Glad to hear your operation was successful. Must be a GIANT relief to yourself and your family. You are correct about prevalence of prostrate cancer but the good news is that treatment is very successful if caught early enough.

My Hi school buddy just had the operation and was succesful as well....thank God.
Good luck and Happy New Year.

1*Sure was especially after battling it in my mind for 10 Months. Without experiencing it you can't begin to imagine the flood of relief. I was out side yesterday Playing with the tractor after getting the good news from my doctor and I told my wife you don't know how good it feels to be out doing this without that threat hanging over me.
2*If caught early enough is the key to successful treatment. The 2 annul test is the key to catching it early. I told my wife that while I was thankful it was detected very early it saddened me to realize that for every case like mine there are probably many more men that have it far more advanced than I did and don't even know it because they've never been tested and for many of them it's already to late. To me that's scary.
My doctor a urologist told me he detects prostate cancer in 2 to 3 men each week.
To me that's a lot in a small town of around 14000 population and he's not the only doctor doing the test.
3*Tell your buddy I said hello and I wish him all the best.

Thanks for your care and concern and well wishes.

Glad to hear your OK !! Must of have been doom & gloom feeling until you got the good news. Right on.

One of the leading causes of cancer in men. I get my PSA test done anually & the "jelly finger" exam every second year till I am 50. Even if guys would only get the PSA test done (blood test), it is 80 to 90% effective in detecting prostate cancer. There you go guys.....get it done....don't procrastinate. You love your tractor don't you. What will the tractor do without you. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Glad to hear you're doing better. After treatment, it can go many, many years before you will have to worry about the threat returning...

My father learned he had prostate cancer in 1995. Things were great for ten years after having radiation treatments. Earlier this year, it came back and spread quickly. Now he has a PSA of 227, and it has spread to his kidneys, and into his bones (spine, arms, hips, both legs). We have to do many things for him now that he was able to do even a month ago.

Everything worked out well for my father for ten years after it was first discovered. I have another friend who was told last year there was nothing that could be done, and now his PSA is at 0.1... Hopefully your surgery will fix things for several years to come, and keep you riding on the tractor for many more hours! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

LB,
Glad to hear your doing OK and allowed back in the saddle. I've been going yearly now for the last two or three years for a checkup. Its not that big a deal to get checked, its probably more of a pride thing than than anything else.
