Coming up on my first 50 hours and am getting ready to change the oil. Looking through my owners manual and I cannot find how many quarts of oil the tractor holds or a part number for the oil filter. Anyone know if I have to go through Mahindra for the filter or can I just run up to the local Tractor Supply Comp. and pick one up. Thanks for the help.

The engine should hold a little over 6 qts of oil with the filter change, and the filter part# should be 005553596R92. I don't believe you will be able to cross that number to any other brand filter. Good luck with it.

It holds 1.6 gallons (6.4 quarts)....

Look on pages 76 and 77 for the service schedule and page 79 in your manual for the full list of fluid capacities.(although their is a misprint with the engine oil quarts listed) Fuel, hyd., cooling system, engine oil, transmission, power steering.

Shemp,

I just did my first oil & filter change on my 3525 this past Sunday...

You can use the Mahindra filter from the dealer, or, Wix lists for the Mahindra 3525 #51068, which is a "short" version of Wix #51515, which is the equivalent of Fram PH8A, Motorcraft FL1A, etc. According to the Wix website, these filters are the same specs as what they recommend (#51068)... just they are about 1 1/2 inches longer in length... flow rate, microns, bypass, etc are all the same otherwise.

I put on a Fram TG8A (Fram's Premium version of the PH8A).

I filled the filter, installed it, and then put 6 quarts of Rotella 15W40 in the crankcase. After running it for a few minutes to get the filter completely filled, I shut it down, waited 10 minutes and checked the oil... it was just a hair above the "full" hole in the dipstick.

Just curious, did your dealer explicitly tell you "ABSOLUTELY NO SYNTHETIC OIL" in the engine?

I did a little more checking around...

Hastings LF196... Long Version of this filter is LF115...X's to Motorcraft FL1A, Baldwin B2, Ford B7A-6714-A, etc.

Baldwin Filters, B233... Long Version B2... same X-ref's.

Thanks for all of that info. My dealer never said anything about not using any synthetic. That would suprise me that we can't use a syn in these tractors. Your dealer told you this? What was his reasoning.

Yeah, my dealer said "Absolutely No Synthetics". Explicitly, in no uncertain terms. I really don't know why.

It's not a big deal to me, I have absolutely no problem with dino oil, I just find it curious that he told me that, and was wondering if other dealers are issuing the same warning/mandate.

Maybe it's a seal issue? I really don't know... maybe someone from Mahindra will chime in *wink* *wink*

Hey Guys,
According to my resources, as long as the synthetic oil meets the API specifications it will be ok to use.

First of all, I don't like to get my hands dirty, too often.
I try and leave those technical questions to Galen, Ernie, Jeremy, Dave and our other dealers that are so good and quick with a response. Besides, I don't have much time to see if ya'll need my "technical advice." ;) But, glad to help when I can.

FL1A huh? That's good to know since I have those laying around for my Mach 1. I just hit 50 hours a couple weeks ago so I'll be doing my oil change this weekend hopefully.

I do a lot of engine work, gasoline, as a hobby from small radio control planes and boats, 5' long in 50 mph range, to full size cars. I also do a lot of reading re engine lubes and mods and listen to car talk shows. Main show on Sat. mornings 6-8, 570 KVI. The guy on B&B auto guy, Tom Turner races cars, mainly drag racing. According to Tom, he has found no advantage in using synthetics in the motor. For gears yes. Disadvantage is that if you have the smallest if leaks in seals, gaskets etc, synthecs will find it and work their way through it. Extra money you dont need to spend, but does make people feel good.
Tom also has a performance shop and works an any kind of car from Sunday drivers to big rigs. Re diesel additive, in the NW Pacific area, Stanadine (sp) is the fuel additive that he uses and recommends.

The advantage of synthetic oil is that it doesn't break down as fast as conventional oil. Synthetic oil is more consistent and has no contaminates. Conventional oil because of it's contaminates can cause varnish and sludge buildup. Synthetics also flow better at lower temps.

As for leaks, yes you are correct that synthetic oil will fine smaller gaps in seals and can leak, but that only really occurs when you add synthetic oil to a high-mileage (or high hour) engines that have used conventional oil for most of it's life.

For a diesel tractor, I'd say the added bonus of synthetic oil is probably not worth the cost of the oil, but for a car I use nothing but synthetic. You can also go longer before changing the oil. Conventional oil is recommended to be changed every 3000 miles while synthetic can go up to 10000 miles before needing a change.

Here's the deal. I tried giving my 2615 a few quarts of olive oil. Now, whenever I'm in the seat there is a constant barrage of Dean Martin tunes coming from the exhaust.

Just did my oil change yesterday and used about 1.6 gallons of Rotella 15W40 and a Motorcraft FL1A filter.
