First deer harvest of the season.

I haven't posted this pic yet because I'm still sick over not finding the buck right away. I killed him on October 4th with bow, but hit part of the shoulder blade and got very little penetration. I searched that night and the next day with no luck, then found him a week later. I was sure he was going to survive which made it worse. Anyway, here is the finished product, boiled, bleached and hanging on the living room wall.

Awesome Trophy!

Thanks. It's bittersweet. I went ahead and checked it in online and will only be shooting bucks with my camera the rest of the year.

The Hornady LeverEvolution really wakes up the 30-30,probably the best improvement for all the calibers offered.

We had a game survey on our lease in the TX hill country and report indicates we need to take a bunch of doe's this year. I took a doe opening weekend and will probably take at least three more. Lots of forage for them this year with a bumper crop of Mexican persimmons, acorns and pecans.

I tried the Hornady Leverevolution in a Marlin 1894 44mag and they had trouble feeding due to the length. Probably won't be an issue with a 30-30.

That's odd because the over-all length is the same, they shortened the brass(at least in the .444 )

Finally have something of my own to add to the thread. Took her Saturday, about 445pm.

I'll ballpark her at 130 dressed.

Pic isn't the best, it was pretty dark. I have others but they're pretty bloody.

Thanks! It was about a 15y shot, i had my choice of 4. I picked the biggest.

Earlier that morning I had quite the standoff with a 6pointer myself..... Never gave me a shot for the bow, if only i had carried the muzzle loader.

Took the day off yesterday, but I'll be back at it this coming weekend.
