We live in Eastern Washington. You may have seen the fires on television news. I just want to caution any of you that are building to provide a clear area around your structure so that fire can't get to it. Many of the homes lost this fire season were built in the forest, and while it's beautiful, I never realized how dangerous it can be. I try to keep the trees near our house trimmed up at least 6 feet off the ground, and keep the weeds in our pasture cut as low as I can. One fire is about 12 miles from us, lightning caused, and about 25% contained now, but there are many people who have lost their homes and still some people who evacuated and not able to get back yet. If you're building, think of the surroundings, and consider what you would do in the event of a fire.

Bob, I believe it was RobertN who started another thread earlier on this topic. And it's well worth reminding folks occasionally. We don't have the "big" fires around here like the forest fires out west that make the national news, but all our volunteer fire departments are sure staying busy fighting grass fires lately./w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif

Bob,

I live on the wet side of the Cascades, Western Washington. We got 2+ inches of rain Wednesday and Thursday hope some of it made it over the mountains. Sleeping ay night must be kinda tough with the fire 12 miles away. Thanks for the reminder.
