Firebreaks?

/ Firebreaks? #21
( How do you keep the grass from growing back? Do you mow it, or just blade it again a few times a year?

In case you're wondering, I live in Palomino Valley (between Reno and Pyramid Lake). )

So far I haven't had any problem with mustard or sheet grass growing back in place of the sage. If it does grow back, I'll just scrape it with the bucket. One thing I do is drive on it on occasion which seems to help keep it bare. I also started putting my wife's horse manure on it, mainly to keep the dirt from blowing and to provide some deterence to natural weeds. We'll see how that works out next spring.

Its all experimental at this point...for as you know...if you take something out of our soil, something else will grow in its place /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I live further south, on the way to Topaz Lake.

Take care
