fire wood

Dunno if this is species limited. Here in Eastern Washington the Locust Borer is killing the Black Locust. I have harvested way over 50 cords of bug killed locust. I hate to see it happening as that tree is not native - it was imported by the settlers back when and is only seen around existing or abandoned farmsteads. Some windbreaks (Roosevelt Forests) are also planted along tops of ridges.

Yikes, nothing is safe. Same here with the black locusts, they are non-native and found around old home sites. I've heard bee keepers appreciate them because they blossom early giving the bees some food in early Spring. I have a small stand of black locust surrounding an old cellar hole. They are by far the oldest trees on my lot, I guess the wood cutters passed them by.

There is also an asian blight that will in time wipe out the hemlocks. And when the ash borer has no more ash trees, they figure maples will be the next tastiest victim. Kind of depressing but hopefully new beautiful trees will fill in the gaps.
