I finished my RC sailboat kit Saturday night. Took it sailing yesterday. Even got my Dad out sailing my second boat :D My brother got a great deal on a used boat; he went too.

Overall, the project was a lot of fun. I would call the Seawind an intermediate kit; definitely not a "Ready to Run", but not as involved as kits that start from scratch with little wooden planks, hull coverings etc.

The boat sailed very well for the first time out. I have seen these boats in action, and seen them rigged, which helped. I was able to put the boat in the front seat of my xcab truck, with the passenger seat reclined. It is easy to take the sails and mast off if necessary, but I didn't need to.

The longer boat was easier to sail than the shorter boat. It also caught the wind very well; a breeze that left the small boat sitting in the water would move the bigger boat.

Here's some pitcures of the boat in progress, and sailing with my brother and Dad.

Impressive Robert! Beautiful boat and quite a keel. I've often thought that would be a fun hobby, and less expensive than RC aircraft.

VERY COOL!!!!

That pond looks real nice too. I bet it's a great way to spend a few hours and relax.

Thanks for posting the pictures,
Eddie

Looks like a nice pond and a good time enjoyed by all.

Just be sure that the keel doesn't get caught on any under water objects. They can cause problems. Don't ask how I know! :D

This is a cove on Lake Natomas, an afterbay for Folsom Lake. I go here because it is close by with nice breezes, and is safe to sail ;) The area is also used as a backup racing location by the local model sailing yacht club.

The local club has raced another local lake that is maybe 10 acres. They will only race there in early spring, otherwise there is too much bottom growth, resulting in snagged keels  I have taken my other boat there; it has a short keel though...

Oh, what you don't see is my wife cruising the area in the canoe too ;)
