I'm looking to buy a B7610 in the spring. I'm just wondering on how good of a finish cut this machine does. It will have a 60"MMM and turf tires. I have a nice lawn and just want to ask current owners of this model if you have any opinions.

I love my 7610 and am happy with the 60" mmm. I feel it does a great job. My lawn is FAR from perfect (I live in WV where my yard is the side of a mountain and ROUGH) but I think it does a heck of a job for what it has to work with!

I have the B7800 with the 60" mmm and it does a pretty good job. I think both the tractor and the mower deck is a little on the heavy side for maintaining an estate quality lawn as I end up with wheel marks where the wheels push the grass over. I also tear up the lawn a little if I am not careful about making gentle turns and mowing when it is completely dry. It seems like the thicker the lawn is the better job my setup does. The 7800 does weigh more then the 7610 but not by much. Ultimately I kind of wish that I would have foregone the mmm and gotten a regular rider mower for just a little more. I think they provide a slightly better cut and I wouldn't have to be constantly putting on and taking off the mower deck during the summer. Furthermore, a dedicated mower would have more maneuverability and be able to get closer into tight places and I would have been able to get industials rather than turf tires for my tractor if I wasn't mowing with it. Also, if you are going to want to bag your clippings make sure to check the prices on bagging systems for the Kubota mmm. I don't remember exactly what I was quoted but I think it was almost as much as the mower. I decided to just mulch. I will say though that mowing with the 60"mmm is pretty quick. It takes me about 30-45 minutes to mow about 3/4 acres of grass. Good luck.

I have a B7510 with turf tires and a 60" rear finish mower. I mow about 1.5 acres and I think it does a better job than my Cub Cadet which has a 42" mower.

The mower deck does a decent job, maybe an 8 out of 10 or so. But as was stated earlier, tight turns WILL tear up your lawn, regardless of what type of tires you get. The BX does not have this problem.

Best of luck.

Don’t mean to hijack the thread, but this should fit the topic.
Wondering why that would be, the type of lawn, moisture etc, or mechanical in nature? Since the B has bigger tires you would think they would be easier on turf, but maybe not...could be they are better over bumps (don't fall into holes) but the bigger footprint is harder to turn. The two machines are very close in weight. Kubota sales brochure shows BX2230 at 1290lbs and B7610 at 1367lbs with the B2410 almost another hundred over that. I borrowed a L2350 (turf tires) this past spring and used it with loader to move a few loads of dirt. The L2350 is at least 500 pounds heavier than the B’s and I ran over the same portion of ground (in 4wd) repeatedly while making turns and loader full with no ill affects on the lawn. Ground was dry. I did do considerable damage when using a Massey-1250 (r4’s) which was around 2800-3000 lbs when the ground here was wet and I was also moving piles of dirt.

Still looking at:
BX2230
B7510/7610/2410
B2710
Older used B or L Series if I buy a ZTR

Still trying to learn about some of the older JD's

tchixarro -

I like KillerB's "8 out of 10" vote! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif I must say I "expected worse" (with R4 tires) - but am VERY satisfied by the results (not to mention the time savings over my old Sears riding mower). But I don't want / expect a "putting green" either!

Although I need to need to some extra care in *soggy* areas after a period of rain - and as long as I don't take extremely sharp turns (and making a "3-point turn" with the HST is very quick!) - I have no problems with my R4 tires marking up my lawn.

I have three pictures to attach:

1) Shows my B7610 from the front - so you can gauge the height of the uncut grass
2) Shows my B7610 from the rear - so you can see the "Before & After" of the cut quality
3) Shows my lawn after a typical mow. While you can see "stripes" from where the (rear) wheels passed - I think the power of the MMM (18 hp PTO) lifts the grass sufficiently after the front wheels pass to cut evenly. I do NOT notice any "stripes" - in terms of different height of cut - once the grass grows in after a few days.

Hope that helps.

Dan

I used a new B7610/RCK60 combo for mowing about 4 acres of residential lawn this year. If all I needed was a mower, I would NOT buy this or any other CUT to do the job. I would be much happier with a dedicated commercial-quality zero turn mowing machine with a deck of equal size. It would be easier and faster to operate, and leave a much more professionally maincured landscape IMHO.

One of my pet peeves with the ground-riding deck; it's noisier than a suspended deck over not-so-smooth grounds, and the two thin center rear wheels leave ugly stripes in an otherwise good-looking cut that generally don't disappear. That said, cut quality has actually exceeded my expectation. It cuts remarkably well (8 out of 10, no prob) and goes thru much thicker grass than I ever expected without a wimper. Unfortunately, as also mentioned, it is a bear to wrestle on and off so don't think you will be swapping it off for an afternoon like you would the FEL or 3-pt implements.

I went with R4s on account of the FEL and because I hated when the turfs on my old tractor loaded up with mud (something I got plenty of), but I scuffed dirt rings around many of the trees etc. while mowing this year. Don't know just how much should be attributed to the R4s or just turning too tight, too fast. Seems my JD 345 did the same thing, just not as fast or as bad. Also, I did have some lawn damage from the R4s in spring... enough to bother getting the little JD out for those wet problem areas. In hindsight, since residential mowing will likely constitute the majority of working hours, I wonder if the turf or bar tires might have been a better choice for me.

Bottom line is it's just so darn hard for a multi-function CUT to do all things well, let alone everything really well. I don't think you can have your cake and eat it too in that regard. But since I bot a CUT for it's all around usefulness, whatever little nits I might have in one dept. is a small price to pay for what I gain in others. Plus, the B7610 is a solid value in it's class and a real fuel sipper! After about 100 hrs now, nothing is so bad with this setup that you could pry the key from my pocket!
