Finish Cut Mower ?

I understand flail mowers and 3 Pt Bush Hog mowers being "Rough Cut" mowers, but I always thought that a Kubota Mid-Mount Mower was considered a "Finish Cut" mower.

Yes, the MMM is for yard grass only. The bushhog and flail mower is made to cut tall grass and light saplings where the MMM is essentially a lawn mower.

Yes! I have the 60” MMM and it finishes “almost” as good as my Exmark that I used for my mowing business. I don’t bag with my MMM but I did with the Exmark which made it much nicer as well.

Incompetence is rampant now-a-days.

Well technically he was right because a finish mower and a MMM aren’t the same thing although they do the same job. A finish mower is different from the previous 3 implements you listed.

I spoke with the owner of the dealership and he agreed it was to be considered a finish mower.

They had a Winter special for a tune-up that included service to finish mowers.

I use a flail mower with grass blades and can do a fine job as a finishing mower.

Mine is a Woodmaxx 62" on a BX2200.

Wish I could be mowing right now... lol

There is a difference between a "Lawn" and a "yard". My brother next door has a "Lawn" of about a half acre and I have about 3 acres of yard. I fertilize with my cut grass staying where I cut it and he applies fertilizer a couple or three times a year. He mows at least once a week and I or now my grandson mow about every two or three weeks. His yard is super green and mine is weed green except when it gets real dry and then his is brown and mine is still weed green. Our yards could be used in advertisements showing the value of fertilizing and liming vs not fertilizing and not liming or in dry weather the value of not vacuuming cut grass clippings vs fertilizing and liming and often cutting. In his defense he doesn't vacuum his clippings and he is a certified master gardener. PS he just bought a used BX1500 MMM Kubota and ditched his Husquavarna. He'll feel the confidence now of 4wd and weight stability on his hillside lot and I won't have to go pull him out of his going downhill to far into his gardens with his Husq and not being able to get traction to get backed back up.

First, the Service Writer, whatever that is, is full of bull. If there is a difference between "finish mowers" and the belly mower you have on the B2150, it is that the belly mower does a BETTER job. "Finish mowers" were brought out primarily for use on larger tractors with 3pt hitches and intended for mowing larger areas. The MMM on your B2150 is probably the 60" one which I have on my B2150. (I have 2 B2150's and moved all the mounting hardware for the MMM from one to the other for reasons too long to describe here.) Your MMM is one that is not suspended in normal operation but rather rides the ground. I feel the ground-riding deck does a little bit better job than the suspended type mower I have on my BX2200 here at home. Probably because the suspended type deck bounces up and down on rough spots leaving uneven cuts. Both do a good job and the differences are not huge but I can see them.

I use plain grass blades on both types of mowers. I have a PTO driven bagger on the BX2200 which was not cheap but it is worth it's weight in gold. I do not have a bagger for the MMM on the B2150. I also use a 7.5ft flail mower on a larger farm tractor for clipping pasture fields. The flail mower is very good in the nitch where it is ideal (rough cutting taller grass, very light brush, and areas not normally cut with "lawn mowers.") I would not be cutting lawns with one.

Were you having any sort of problem with your MMM on the B2150? I consider that the best mower deck ever made. (At least the best I have ever seen.) I've used mine for 25 years and never had a single problem with it. Cut things it was never intended to cut way higher than it was intended to cut, etc. I've never seen it bogged own. Cleaned up and with sharp blades it does a very smooth finish cut. The belt is essentially indestructible IF YOU KEEP OIL OFF OF IT.

Hi JWR.

The tractor I sent in for service was my B3000. It does have a Kubota mid-mount mower, but I haven't been able to use it yet.

I sold my B2150 to my neighbor. He got himself a good deal. B2150HST with Bi-Speed turn, a 60" belly mower, FEL, Rear blade with 1200 Hours on it an just fully serviced by the dealer for $8,000. He also grabbed my Allied 60" 3 Pt snowblower for $750. I have all the Manuals for everything, Workshop, Owners and Parts manuals and a few spare parts, like filters, bulbs etc.

It had been garage kept since I owned it. So the paint was in very good condition.
I agree the belly mowers are sweet and much easier to maneuver with them on the tractor than using a rear mount cutter of some sort.

In general, most of the Kubota stuff is bullet proof.

I hope I have the same luck with the B3000 as I did with the B2150.

BTW... the "service writer" is the guy in the dealer service department who writes up the service tickets.

They are not mechanics and don't even have any real mechanical knowledge. They are just paper pushers.

I have my B3000 back now and am ready for the snow! I had a full general service done, as well the 300 hour service items per the manual.

New battery too ! Bad part was it cost me $1,050.00 in total.

I would say a belly mower is getting away from being a true finish mower, but that means different things to different people.

Depending on weight of machine, you are trampling down the grass. Many little tractors scuff turf on sharp turns.

Many Belly mowers don't have the tip speed and lift of true turf equipment.

Many Belly mowers don't float well to follow terrain. The JD770 Belly mower I had hung from the tractor, not touching the ground.

And. the wider a deck, the worse the cut quality unless you have a very flat lawn.
