Very soon I will be in the market for a riding mower, probably used. I'll have a tractor with a 72" flail mower for big areas, so the riding mower is only for nearly flat areas just around my house. I'm not a fan of the golf-course look, so I will mow as infrequently as I can get away with. I would like to spend as little as I can for a capable enough, durable enough machine. Got any advice on what to look for, and how evaluate used mowers?
(I refuse to use pushmowers. When I was a kid, a neighbor boy running a lawn service did some mowing on our property. He slipped on the grass and pulled a push mower right up over his foot, taking off three toes. The safety switch of course didn't do a thing, because he grabbed tight on the bar as he fell. We had to bring out our beagle to find his toes so they could be sent to the hospital on ice.)
