When I was stationed at Ft.Sill there was a dillo catching contest twice a year. Teams of 4 would go out at night and chase them down and catch them by hand, put them in a bag and then check them in the next day. The golf course was there primary hangout. The first year they had the hunt, I had a Bronco II with running boards that people would stand on as I drove, somebody would run a spotlight and when we spotted one, everybody would jump off and chase it down. Got lost once about 2 am one night. got out to determine where I was. I was on the fairway for the 7th hole with a four wheel drive vehicle.

I checked with the judges and Panzerschweinis also acceptable.

The term "Panzerschwein" was given to them by Texas settlers from Germany. I think it means "schnitzel tank":D...or something like that.

Panzerschwein = armored swine or armored pig

Ok, I thought you were nuts...but indeed this story was reported last year by numerous mainstream news outlets.

Glad I never had any desire to cook me up a batch of dillo stew!!

i understand opossum and armadillo both can carry it..

i believe 'crayfish' is actually the most precise.. though local slang would have crawfish or crawdad..e tc.
