My dad served on a cutter. I don't know too much about his service as he never really talked alot about it, but I know that it involved escorting merchant ships, patroling the Atlantic for U-Boats and a couple of escorts over to Europe and back.

The cutter was much like the USN equivelant. Guns, Ash Cans, etc...
