Ive been look for a tractor for awhile now, and I have to say im glad its over! Trying to find one thats not worn out to bad and still can afford is a hard thing to do around here. I attached a pic, but this is my first time trying that so i hope it worked. I looked at buying a new mahindra but the only one i could afford was the 2415 hst and it seemed small. Looked real hard at the chinesse stuff but question of quality made me decide against it. Even thought of going with a yanmar but couldnt find one around here with all the safety equipment.

I called about a kubota with a frame mounted backhoe thursday, it looked promising, but the guy had taken it to north carolina to run thru an auction. Arg. About 10 seconds after getting off the phone with him, my buddy (who works at a JD dealership) gives my a call and says I think ive got what you been looking for. I had been talking to him for about 3 months, so he knew I was looking hard. He sent me this picture of it and I said "ill be there as soon as I get of work". Its a 1994 JD1070 4wd with the push blade, and the hour meter reads 102. There are some cosmetic issues that ya cant see in the pic. The guy who had it backed into something and bent the left fender and broke the tail light. Left side engine cover has a slight pushed in spot, not bad though, and the right side engine cover has a white mark down the whole lenght of it, might be able to compound that out. Other than that its pretty much in really great shape.

I went ahead and bought it for 8500.00, and added a 300cx loader for 3500.0. The brackets they had wont work with this tractor so i gotta wait 12 days for the right ones to come in. They are throwing in a free can of touch up paint, owners manual, installing a hidden kill switch for free, doing a basic service on the tractor,{gota get back with him on that one to make sure everyting gets checked, ima pay for that if need be cause i dont want problems later}, and delivering it to me for free.

So, waddya think, did i make out pretty good on this deal? I forgot to check the hour meter whin i cranked it up just to give it a little test drive, is 102hours on a tractor this old believable?

Ken -- congrats on your new (to you) tractor and welcome to TBN! I'd say you got a great deal on what looks like a fine machine!

The hours seems a little questionable; but the price is fantastic and your dealer gave you a good deal on the loader, too! (Heck, the tires look brand new, too.) One thing to check would be the clutch on a machine that old. Ask your dealer buddy if they know anything about the repair/work history on the tractor. The 1070 is a pretty bullet-proof machine but clutches wear out on any tractor with year's and use.

The engine covers are sheet metal -- and can be easily re-painted, etc. as is the fender.

The 1070 is a great tractor and a real workhorse. Don't know what your place is like; but there are a few folk's here on TBN that use their 1070 for mowing, baling hay, etc.

Plenty of power for a small acreage place!

Post some more pics when you get the new FEL mounted.

Thanks Akfish,

I only have 1.2 acres. The reason is need the tractor is that my property is on the side of a valley that is about 2 miles across, and the slope of the land is very bad, so ima do allot of earth moving, plus ill prob have to buy some fill. Im allread starting to save up for a trailer and implements so that I can make some money with it on the weekends. Ima have to figure all the weights out to see if my truck will pull this thing and still be safe. Its a F150 super crew, but it only has a 4.8 v8. I also have a 1998 ford expedition with a 5.6 v8, havent looked up the towing capacity yet but im thinking it will probably be better than the pick up truck.

Its gonna be a long 12 days before that part gets here, I am ready to get started!

Ken,
I have recently bought a 1050, the predecessor to the 1070, which weighs approx. 3600 lbs. w/o FEL. I too have an F-150 SuperCrew, but have the 5.8L V8, and it is a breeze to haul. My trailer has brakes, which I would reccomend for pulling a tractor. I could haul the 1010 with a heavy disk harrow (which should be close in overall weight to the 1070 with FEL) with my regular cab Chevy with 5.7L V8 without problems. The biggest problem i have is stopping, and the trailer brakes take care of that for me. Your 4.8 would pull it, but will stuggle, as we have moved a 1520 with a regular cab Ford with 4.8. Talk about guzzle fuel!!

Deere Hunter,

I saw your post where you bought yours, didnt you post about some pto issues? Anyways I hope your enjoying it, Ive still got to wait a week and a half to get mine. The JD dealer said he could get me a 18ft with ramps lights and brakes for 2300.00. I havent shopped around yet, cause I spent all my money on the tractor and loader, now im broke. I think ima try to pull it with the expedition since it allread has a hitch on it. Kinda would like to get the tires loaded, but am worried about adding that much more weight to the total. Any body know about how much all the water will weigh?

Years ago when I was alot younger and stupid I pulled a Deere 450 dozer home from a dealer about 12 miles away. I used my Ford F100 pickup to pull it, that was a real learning experience for me. A 1070 should be a breeze compared to that.

Ken,
I meant to write that I would look at a trailer that was at least 18' if you want to pull the tractor with the FEL and an implement. My tractor with disk absolutely fills a 16' trailer. $2300 does not sound unreasonable for a new 18' with brakes, depending on axle ratings.

Any way to verify the hours? 102 on a 14 year old tractor is an average of 7.3 hours per year. Might be right, but is sure sounds fishy.

Good luck!

When I take delivery of it ima check to see if the hour meter works. Any way to tell if its ever been unchooked? Take a look at the picture I posted, the paint isnt even worn off of the foot rest.
