I recently purchased a Fimco 60 gal. 3-point PTO boom sprayer. This is my first experience with a sprayer that you're able to adjust the pressure. How much pressure do you folks normally run when spraying herbicides? I plan on killing off an old clover field food plot (3 acres) in late summer so I can plant a fall brassica plot. Thanks & have a GREAT day!

Several variables. Nozzle size, space between nozzles, type of nozzle, application rate to name a few. I built my own sprayer based on the Fimco units and as a general rule I'm running about 40 psi.

I agree with RPW. Does your owner's manual give you any guidance?

You have to do the math. Find the detail on the nozzles first, you need the GPM at a particular pressure and coverage width. I try to stay at the lower end (40- 50 PSI) so the droplet size is greater and I get less wind drift. You then need your tractor speed to calculate the gallons per acre that you'll apply. I have two different spray nozzles that I swap between. One set will apply about 25 gallons per acre and the other about 12.5

25 gallons of solution per acre seems to be a pretty typical application rate with most of the stuff I've used (mainly broadleaf herbicide).
