Filling Hydraulic Fluid

I am about ready to change the hydraulic fluid, filter, and clean the screen in my 3820 Branson and remember seeing a post awhile back about cracking a line to allow air out while filling.... can't seem to find that post now. Could someone please refresh my memory on which line would be best to crack open? Wouldn't it need to be at a point higher than the resovior?

Also, is see many people have used Diesel fuel to wash off their screens, why couldn't you just use soapy water and air? Is it because of rusting the screen? Hate to waste that expensive fuel these days!

I believe the screen for my 3820 is in FRONT of the right rear tire - not in back, correct?

Is it better to drain the Hydraulic fluid warm like the oil? If the tractor is off and the bucket and 3 pt. are at their lowest position, there shouldn't be any pressure to worry about when draining the fluid, correct?

Sorry about asking all these newbie questions, but I think it is better to ask than which I had. Thanks everyone!

I used an auto transmission type long funnel and had no problems filling mine from a 5 gal bucket with the spout attached. I bought Texaco Fluid, was told it and Cheveron are the same as Cheveron now owns Texaco.
I used mineral spirits to clean the screen. It dosen't take very much, you are just removing the oil coating. The screen is located just in front of the right rear tire. There are 3 bolts holding the cover on. Remove it carefully so as not to damage/loose the O-rings. The screen is about 3" in diamiter and 8" long.
I would reccomend changing it cold. It flows out easily. The drain plug is located bottom front just below the driveshaft. Use your finger to stop the flow to change 5 gal buckets when draining. The front axle has 3 drain plugs, center, right and left.

I found that interesting so I printed it out and saved it, it was posted by DavesTractor back in January,and I quote,

"When filling the hytrans, crack the hose connection to the left of the fill tube and it will fill quickly. Otherwise it is glug, glug, glug...."

I havent done mine yet so I cant give any feedback to you.
I'm sure this was the post you were looking for though, hope it helps.

Thank you for the info. That is exactly what I've been looking for. I'm planning on changing the hydraulic fluid in a couple of days. This will be very helpful.
