Minnesota Department of Transportation added 3 new photos.
Yesterday's big blow challenges us to find alternative methods to prevent further drifting across roads. This is from Hwy 212 by Brownton Mn. today. The supervisor explained that they do this on the bottom side of a curve to make room for more snow. They start at the bottom of the ditch and work their way up to prevent the blower from getting stuck.

Holly smokes, Thats either one of the shortest cab tractors and blowers or you guys have some serious snow fall on the ground. I can't really tell what size tractor that is but if its anything like the new hollands they use here for road side service i'm guessing thats 6 -7 feet of snow.

If it gets any deeper they might as well equip the tractor with a periscope

I remember MNDOT doing something similar in the winter of 1997. I grew up in Morris and they hired a local road paving company to take Cat D6s and push the snow back.

This did two things: 1 pushed the snow back allowing more room for the plows to get the snow further back off the road and 2. created a little bit of a wind buffer so the snow didn't drift so badly into the "tunnels" that had been created on the roads.
