Well, I got tired of working on it and since I have the week off and will be using the tractor extensively, I decided to put it back on and see if the repair holds up. If so, then I'll take it off again and do the final sanding and painting. If not, I'll either try again to fix it or break down and buy a replacement.

I put it on Sunday am and used it through today (Wednesday) noon. No sign of cracking. (Of course, in the process of putting it on, I dropped it on the rear tail light housing on the tractor and broke it, so there goes another $24.)

Egon and Soundguy - thanks for the compliments.

firemanpat - It actually has a rubber bumper that goes on the bottom edge all the way around. I'll glue it back on after I paint it.

I was actualy thinking of steel tube extending a little out front and a little around each side. maybe use the bolts that the top is on now .make some frame rails and add a bumper |
