Patents may have expired and more track saws will become available. Dewalt and Kreg have them, not many lumber yards carry them in store.
No doubt. I don't know what was patented on the Festool Track Saw system and as I mentioned a few, there are several nice features. The zero clearance fence, the riving knife, but also two cams on the saw to adjust the sloppiness in the track rail, the non slip pads on the underside of the track, depth of cut presets w/fine tuning for both using with and w/o the track, and the ability to daisy chain multiple tracks together for very long straight cuts. I sound like a salesman for them. Maybe they will send me a free tool?

Years ago I was shopping for a shop-vac at my local Woodsmith store. I had my choice between Festool and Fein. The store had been selling Fein for a long time but the Festool was new to that store at the time. For that reason I chose Fein. A few years later the store dropped Fein and kept Festool.

Do you have a pic of the track-saw?

Yes. We need a pic of it in your heated shop.

Here you go... and a sort of close up of the soft plastic edge guide.

The pink underlayment is a 4' by 8' by 1" rigid foam insulation. Works great as sacrificial backing and I can easily remove it and store it converting my table to metal topped fab table.

Yes. We need a pic of it in your heated shop.
Of course I haven't had much need for the heater since I finally got it installed... been generating enough heat myself. Today, I worked up a sweat sanding a cabinet I am making and think I personally raised the shop temp a couple of degrees! :D

That's a nice saw. Sounds like you were in the right spot at the right time to buy it. I'm not that lucky.

I was... and not normally. I was on Craigslist selling something, and just for giggles, I typed in Festool. Consider myself very lucky especially because I am starting a project and can put it to immediate use. Rare that Festool are available used. The guy selling needed to upgrade to the bigger version for cutting 2.5in hardwood for a project he has and couldn't justify both saws. He figured since he lived out on Bainbridge Island, and with COVID and all, he needed to price it cheap to get enough Seattle folk interested to make the journey. Little did he know there was me lurking nearby (an easy drive for me). :D
