Ferris IS4500 Z

Today I went to a dealer and looked at this Ferris- 60 inch deck with a 28 hp Cat diesel.
I drove it a bit in their yard and next week the dealer will bring it out for a test drive on my property. I liked the suspension and it looks like it can really take the rough lawn.
Dealer wants $15,000 for it. I would like to hear from others who own this model and any comments on the price.

We have the biggest model, i believe the IS5000z at work. I have used it several times, the only thing that i can relate the ride to is driving a lazy boy chair across the yard. The ride is smooth. I liked it so much I bought the IS2000z for my self, and love it.

For 15K, I think I would pay someone else to mow it.

I have been this route.I would also look real hard at the Kubota ZD 326-331 pro models.I bought my (commerical)2007 Kubota ZD (28hp diesel)326 60 inch deck for $10,700.I also have owned a ferris gasser that I was very happy with but I could not justify the the extra cost for the cat diesel verses the Kubota diesel.If you are In south east Michigan talk to Dans farm supply located in adrain Mi. ask for greg super person to deal with,coobie.

I with go with the Ferris, the ride is SO much better, I have run both, serviced both and the Ferris rides much better than the kubota. The diesel in those isnt mady by Cat themeselves. Its made by Shirbura for Cat. If you look at the engine tag, all the ones we sold and serivced said Catapillar/Shibura engine group. Just cant spell the last name right lol. I used to mow the median in front of the store, it would be a foot to two feet high and I could just fly thru it, cut it down to 3" with a nice clean cut and go as fast as I was comfortable going. My brother has one of those - it's a monster, alright!! He mows a 2 acre field next to his place in about 20 - 30 minutes - just flies through there. He loves the ride, which is the main reason he bought it. His previous CubCadet ZTR rode too rough, he said.

His cost was skewed because he bought two of 'em - he got a smaller 1500 for his wife to use, at the same time, but $15K sounds a mite high. I'll have him check with his dealer and see what the cost is around here.

Okay, checked and the price was $14K last year, and that was when buying 2 Ferris's, so, with inflation and all, $15K is probably right.

i have an idea. i am thinking the gasser needs to come off and a veggie burner to go on

I thought that little CAT was a Perkins?

It is a Perkins engine labeled Cat and the nicest thing is beings it says
Cat you get to haul it to your local cat dealer so you can get work done to it. We tried to sell these but we have deere and when you put them side by side with a 997 nobody wants to pay 1500 to 2000 more for the Ferris. The Ferris ride is very good but the cut quality isn't. If you just want a nice ride then Ferris is a good option.
