Not thinking for a minute, I pulled the cam gear off the cam shaft without paying attention to where it was. Now I'm not sure how it is positioned on the shaft.
You would think it would only go on one way but it has 3 bolts and no matter how you turn it, the bolt holes all align.
There is no alignment marks that I see. There are a few things I thought might be marks but none of them make sense.
The manual says if the timing marks are all aligned the first cylinder should be at TDC on the compression stroke.
So if this is true, I'm guessing I can put the shaft in with the 2 front lobes pointing downward (away from the tappets) and then align everything else and finally put the cam gear on with the marks aligned.

Is there an alignment mark, and what does it align with on the camshaft?
Does what the manual say sound right? should #1 be at tdc on compression when the marks are all aligned?

Should be a line on cam that lines up to gear
When four is rocking adjust one
When three is rocking adjust two and so forth

Thanks for your help.
I think I got it.
There is a line on the shaft but it didn't make sense because I didn't see anything on the gear to line up with it.
While wiping off the gear to get a better look I noticed some dirt that had been trapped between the gear and shaft and I was able to line them up by the dirt marks. After installing the gear I realized that there is a mark on the front of the gear that aligns with the cut mark.
And with the gear aligned that will put the 2 lobes pointing down when the timing marks are all aligned so I believe its right now.
I've attached pics. I believe these are the alignment marks.
