Fencing etiquette?

LOL... I'm sure I posted on a thread about encroachments. It can be quite the rabbit hole!

Yeah, when we bought our place, I found the back stake property markers 2FT on the other side of the almost down fence. The owner was of Irish decent. It was his way or no way. Then in 2022, the older owner died from complications due to a covid lung condition.

The new owner took months to even walk back there as it's dense and over grown. I plan on Summer 2026 to begin work to yank out the old barb wire runs and so old metal posts that snap off at the base. Lots of this has young trees grown up thru the old fence. Then work with the new neighbor getting a reliable fence up.

Sometimes fencing encounters of encroachment can literally mean . . .

^we hired a land clearing team to clean up our dense property line. Good/bad news is that 100% of our adjacent neighbors are corporate properties. The bigger one is a huge energy business. The other is a regional poultry operation. They didnt care if we munched some trees on the line. They also weren't interested in splitting to fencing cost.

There is some benefit to parallel fences. If there is enough space between to drive a SxS, you can fix fence easily. You also have 2 layers for critters to go through. Nothing will stop a determined critter, but the more difficult, the less determined they get.

We had a similar conundrum in our first house in Vegas. The neighbor had a ratty cedar fence on their side. We wanted to put in cinder block walls (matched other sides and most of neighborhood). They were bad neighbors, especially the wife. They didn't want to cooperate, so we built the wall tight up on the property line. Zero way for them to maintain that wood fence on our side. We no longer had to deal with their complaints on that front. She was a piece of work. I could/should write a book about old Dottie the Drunkard.
