Backhoe Felling a tree with a backhoe

Those pine trees look like they would make some good construction lumber, in the 2x6 and 2x4 sizes.

When we were building a site for a well location, I watched a BIG trackhoe push trees over, pick them up and shake the dirt off and stack them up for burial off location. When he ripped up a stump and root ball, he placed it off to the side, dug the hole deeper, flipped the stump and rootball upside down back into the hole and buried it. It was pretty neat to watch and marvel at the skill and speed of that operator.

Any suggestions as to who to contact that may want them? I hate to see them go to waste. I'm too lazy for a portable sawmill, thats hard work!

I'm really a heavy equipment wannabe! /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif As for my skill and speed, well that probally won't impress ya. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif But I do believe anyone and just about everyone(except other Kioti owners, lol) should be marveled at what a little 20 HP tractor like this will do. Myself and KiotiJohn have been taking this little beast thru the gauntlet and it just seems to say "Is that all ya got?"

As for flipping stumps, I thot of that also but I don't want a sink hole years down the road.

I have pics of another 10 incher that I did today. I'll post later, right now I have a Medal of Honor clan match. (I love that game, try it!) Anyway, I will tell ya... Backhoeing a tree and then sudden gusts of wind equals a pucker factor of about a 9 on a scale of 1-10. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif Scared the XXXX out me!

I have pushed over some good size pines in the 40' to 60' class with a big Cat Dozer . Just be real sure they are not dead in the top or you might end up with a big surprize ! The jaring can snap the tops out of dead trees and down they come . Right at You! I would not ever consider doing it with a backhoe for safety issues alone , dead or alive ,unless it was a small tree . IF it goes the wrong way, god help you .
I think I will stay with the Chain Saw.

I'm sick of hearing about your xxxx backhoe. Just wait till mine gets put on in March!! Heck, I'm doing trees with the loader and a rope!! I agree about the dead stuff up in the tops, they tend to come back the opposite way of the fall. Helps to have FROPS if you're gonna do that! I understand both of your concerns about shearing the top of a tree and having it come down on ya. Like I said before I was raised on a Stihl and was also driving a tractor by age 10, much larger tractors then here on TBN. And I also said that no matter what equipment you use felling trees is dangerous. This is where common sense goes a LONG way.
