Hi,
After rebuilding the power steering pump and cylinders, I raised the tractor up on the FEL to get the air out of the p/s and the tractor sunk back down straight away.
As the FEL goes up fine, if a bit slowly, is the cause likely to be the FEL cylinders? They aren't leaking externally.
Thanks

Could be cyl piston seals or valve spools.

Switch work port hoses and see if the operation is the same the same.

If piston seal is leaking on boom cylinder and boom settles down where does the extra oil move to as cylinder rod moves into barrel taking up area that oil bypassed by piston would require?? In this question I'm presuming that control valve & rod seals are holding pressure IE not leaking.
Thanks,Jim

Please forgive my noob-ness but do you mean the top hoses?

The unit says Vickers on it but no part number. Do you think there is a repair kit for it?
The FEL was built by a Massey dealership in this state, probably 30 or more, years ago. Fortunately the cylinder manufacturer is still in business in my state capital and they carry out repairs, hopefully under warranty:).

How many times have you had the loader raised and lowered since the work?

The work was on the power steering which is a separate closed system not on the FEL hydraulics
I was aware that there was an issue when I bought it as the seller put the FEL on a drum so that I could get in to clean a lot of muck off, to get a better look at the engine.
Within half an hour the drum was getting pushed into the floor. I asked the Massey dealer nearby the seller what he thought it was caused by and he said it should take the FEL overnight to go down by itself not half and hour and so was likely to be the cylinders not anything else. I wanted a second opinion from the forum before I start sending parts away to be rebuilt or I order parts to rebuild myself if that's do-able for the novice.

JJ means switch the hoses that control the bucket dump and the ones that raise the loader. I don't think you have quick disconnects, so it would be done at loader control valve. So the controls would be opposite to what they are. Odds are that both sets off seals in valve are not worn. This would help determine if it was seals in valve or Pistons. Good luck. Most newer tractors have removable loaders, so they have couplers that are easily swapped around.

There are no replaceable seals on a spool valve that can leak that will allow a hyd cylinder piston to move. Worn spool lands &/or valve housing can let cylinder piston move.

Thanks guys.

There 'aint nothin quick disconnect about this loader!
As those hoses at the valve are at almost the highest point, I guess there shouldn't be too much oil loss but will I still have to bleed the system and if so how?
