Dad,

Nope just bolted to the side, about an inch below the bucket. With a hard blacktop surface they just ride along and do not dig in. Eventually they wear and you have to add new 2 x 4.

One could easily build a set of skids similar to what I built for my snowblower. Use a strip of 1/4"x 1.5" flat bar steel, (formed to the contours of your bucket with hammer or torch, 1/4" shapes pretty easy), and a couple of 4-6" pcs as risers to bolt to the side of your bucket. Just keep an eye out for the occasional shop critter lurckin around each and every corner!!! HaHa. These skids took maybe 1/2 hr to make and paint. This would keep your bucket off the gravel and/or asphalt until you get a good ice packed base, then remove them when not needed. Pretty simple and easily built add on for any brand of machine.
