FEL Problem

We have a problem with a 6520 4-wheel drive; we installed a ML-275 Front-end loader. With the engine at idle or any speed for that matter the FEL control valve (Joystick) has hydraulic fluid flowing through it. Like it’s by-passing fluid, the control valve gets very hot (guess with over 2500 PSI flowing constantly I would be a little warm). The bucket will raise and lower but when you put the bucket on the ground and try to lift the front wheels off the ground nothing happens, ANY ideas.


Have had 98.2 hours of problem free operation until today.

Its gotta be something dumb. Try unplugging and replugging all the quick connects on the loader valve. See if one of your remote levers has gotten blocked ON somehow. The latter happened on my 7520 - - same symptom.

The hydraulic system is an open center system. The pump pumps hydraulic fluid all the time and unless the valve directs the fluid do do a task the valve just runs the fluid back to the reservoir. Open center systems are the system most tractors use and it is normal for the valve to get somewhat hot even when not in use. If there were a restriction in the valve that would cause the valve to get hotter than it should but I think your valve is probably working properly. Good luck with it.

Are you pushing the valve into the float position perhaps, thus no downpressure?

Does the three-point still work properly?

Yep that was the problem the three point draft handle just a minor adjustment and the constant flow of fluid stopped....

Anyway, thanks for the help now its back to more digging.

Wow.. you guys were scareing me a bit. Be careful with those draft handles.. you do that long enough and & hot enough you can melt the seals and stuff in the valve....
