FEL Mod for Sand Spreader

Has anyone modified their FEL for Spreading Sand. I can't justify a dedicated spreader therefore I'm looking for ideas. I'm thinking about a possible "edge" that would bolt or clamp on in front of the cutting edge of the FEL and that it would have a gap, say 3/4". When I tilt the bucket, the sand would fall forward & then evenly dispersed through the gap. Wishful thinking ?? Anyone built one similar to what I'm thinking ?? I haven't ruled out the possibility of 2x4's & plywood . BTW, now I dump the sand in the bucket & use a rake to pull it out trying to spread it evenly. This is a time consuming & a pain especially when there's only me !!

Yes , it will work . You are talking about the same thing used to spread chips on a dump truck except your dumping with the FEL .WE called them a "chip box" attachment for the dump trucks. Make your gap adjustable so you can adjust as neccessary .This was discussed in the "Salt/sand box for the driveway" post . I have done this and it worked fine .
