Front-End Loader FEL hose Pressure...tips??

Yesterday i ran into a problem. The first time it has happened. I removed my FEL a while to use the tractor for shredding, i have done this before with no problems. Anyway, when i went to put it on, i couldnt get the hoses to 'plug in'. I determined that the lines on teh FEL had too much pressure in them, after i pushed the button in with a heavy bolt, they went in no problem. How can i relieve this pressure BEFORE i take the loader off and disconnect the lines? Its messy to relieve them and its a pain. I guess i didnt do something quite right.

On my 2520 I turn off the engine and then move the joystick in all directions to relieve the pressure, if I forget to do that I have the same issue as you did.

Yes...thats what i didnt do. I have only removed it 4 times, and i guess i got complacent and cocky and didnt shut it off before disconnecting!!

I learned about that the hard way. I had forgot to move the joystick around and kept trying to ram the hoses on and messed up an O-ring. Couldn't just buy the O-ring (it was an O-ring with a teflon like ring around it), had to buy the whole end. I haven't forgot since then

Sometimes even if you release pressure by moving the SCV with the tractor off, you can get too much pressure in the lines. Specifically, if the lines are laying outside in the sun on a hot day. Don't ask me how I know this.

Often, if the return hose will go on, it will relieve the pressure in the lines enough for the supply hose to pop in, too. In other words, if one won't go in, try the other one. If neither will, then there's nothing to do but bleed the line. But, if one of the pair will go on, then the second should, too.

Don't feel bad. I too struggled with that, being new to the tractor and all. Thanks for bringing it up for others to read.

Just as Jeff said, pressure can build up in the hose even if you relive the pressure before disconnecting, like if you took the loader off in the winter and tried to put it back on in the summer-or is sets in the sun as Jeff said.

I just wrap a rag over the end of the QD, then push it against the loader frame to relive the pressure.
