Hi, I saw a post in here about changing out the tilt cylinders on the KL1450. I've been looking around at buying cylinders to do the swap. I know that 2" is what people are recommending, but what about the stroke of the cylinder? I cant seem to find a spec on what length to buy. I'm not sure how the stroke is measured or I'd just measure the factory ones. Does anybody know what I should be looking for? -Joshua

If you want to keep everything the same and I assume by tilt that you mean the bucket curl, fully close the cylinder (curl back) and measure eye to eye centers. Then go to fully open cylinders (full dump) and measure again. The difference is your stroke. If the new cylinders have different full closed or full open lengths, then the bucket travel (limits) will be changed. This won't necessarily hurt anything if the new cylinders are close. I'm sure you'll see that the bucket may go one way farther than the other or visa versa.

I know what curiosity did to the cat...But I can't help myself:

Why?

I don't know if the problem is the same with everyone, but the curl cylinders on my KL1450 are very weak. They don't leak fluid but if I leave the bucket curled back, it will begin to tilt down within a few minutes and if I'm carrying a load in the bucket I have to keep tapping the curl valve as I drive the tractor or I'll loose some of what I have in the bucket.

The power is pathetic for the bucket curl. Mine also starts to sag while carrying a load. I'd love to replace the whole loader but thats way out of the price range! This seems to be a pretty good answer to the curl problem.

I have a KL130 and the curl is pretty good for its size and it doesn't leak down. Going to a 2" cylinder over your original, I think 1.75" cylinder, should give you about a 25% increase in power. The speed of the curl will be about 25% slower because the hydro fliud flow is the same. The Surplus Center, from TBN's home page, may have what you need. There's one section in their catalogue with just loader cylinders. They also have various line adapters just in case the connections are different. New and bigger cylinders should make it much better.
Also, when checking the stroke, closed and open length, measure your pin diameter for the cylilnder eye ends. Mine are 1" but not sure what yours are.
I hope you find what you need.

I'll measure the stroke when I get home tonight. Thanks for the info. Does anyone know the actual specs on the kl1450? I've "googled" it and found nothing. I'm curious how it compares to the specs for the kl351 which is what they put on the DK35 now.

Here are some spec's for the KL1450 Loader:

Maximum Lift Height - 103.5"
Lift Capacity to Full Height - 1350 lbs
Breakout Force - 2100 lbs
Lift Cylinders - 2" x 17.56"
Bucket Cylinders - 1.75" x 14"

KL351 Loader (DK35SE)

Maximum Lift Height - 102.4"
Lift Capacity to Full Height - 1412 lbs
Breakout Force - 2640 lbs

Hope this helps

Thanks Michigan Iron. This is probably a really stupid question to almost everyone on this forum but....what is breakout force mearsured by? Bucket curl? Lift capacity i assume is how much the lift cylinders will pick up off ground hight..but I could be wrong.
