Pardon me if my terminology suffers. I've got about 20 hrs on the 7610. Today I pushed the control lever for the FLE foward to go in the float position and it did not stay. I do this everytime I stop the tractor and get off with the engine running. It does not want to stay in the float position. It pops right back. I didn't have time to look into this today and won't get another chance to play with it until Monday (between work and turkey hunting a very busy weekend). I'm sure this is a minor thing (I hope)

Well, I would not do that, when I get off with the engine running I do not set the loader into float--why? But, that said, mine will stay in float. I am sure it is a minor adjustment and even if it is not it does have a warranty.
Today, my neighbor to the south is spending about 10,000 dollars on sod, landscaping and stones. They of course are using a Bobcat for most of the dirt work, a large JD for general work and an old 8N to pull the pulverizer. I was mowing my yard and all that stuff. They all stopped their work and came over and looked the little 'bota 2410 over. Later when I installed the FEL and they saw the little FEL their eyes popped out /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif. The company owner had his gears turning cuz it was clear he needed a small light tractor that could work in close to houses and still have sufficient power and durability to stand up to commercial work. Yep, he liked the 2410 alot. You will like your 7610 alot also /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif. J

I guess I do it for the following reason: when it is down it can't fall down and when it is down there is less chance the tractor will roll (even though I'm on very near flat land) Do you think there is any harm in this?

I would just lower it to the ground or a few inches from the ground and set the brake. J

Further, every safety warning I've read says don't get off the tractor with attachments in the air, so why not? I don't always lower mine when I get off, but most of the time I do and it's usually just, push it into float and I don't have to pay attention while it's going down as I would if I were controlling the downward movement. I feel sure the problem is very minor. John

Typically there is a sliding ball mechanism attached to the end
of the spool opposite from the control lever which provides the
detent function. You might want to see if this is present/functional
on your bucket roll valve.

Kubota uses Husco valves on their larger loaders/backhoes.
They have a distinct profile so you may be able to identify the
make visually.

One word of caution if you decide to have at the detent mechansim
yourself. The balls are under spring tension and may get away
from you if unprepared. In any case you'll want to review the
valve data sheet for a few clues was well as repair advice beforehand.

Make that "loader lift" valve.

One further thought fishdoc. Take it for warranty work if it's still causing the problem. I don't think you want to tackle that problem as per Uhmgawa's informative post. good luck, John

I put mine in the float position every time I put the Tractor away, whether I think of it while the tractor is still running or if I have shut it off, I've been doing it this way for 17 years on my B7200DT. It doesn't matter whether the tractor is running or not as when in the float position as the fluid is being directed back to the tank by pressure from the FEL's weight only, not from the pressure side.

One reason I do not put it in float when it is stored away is that I like the cylinders fully retracted to prevent corrosion. After I shut the engine down I work the joy stick to relieve pressure and the cylinders do relax a little but for the most part remain fully covered. As to putting it into float while the engine is running and you dismount I cannot see that it hurts anything. The valve is meant to be used and I would figure the extra wear on the detent to be negligible. I just don't feel the need to do this for whatever reason, I being a sophisticated tractor user set the brake instead and just lower the FEL. This way I don't take off with the FEL in float but then of course that leaves the brake issue--but--who--of course--would drive around with the brake set /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif J
