There's a metal flap above the my FEL control lever that you can flip down, where it then prevents the the control lever from going up (forward) and lowering the bucket. My manual doesn't say anything about this. Anyone know what that's for? I can see a safety device for preventing you from raising the bucket, but one that keeps you from lowering it?!?

I think it is all a matter of prespective. If you were standing under the bucket looking up, this prespective could be kind of scary when the lever was accidently hit. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

The flap is to ensure that the bucket is not dropped. I am wondering if it is OSHA inspired

I haven't read anything to confirm this, but I always thought that it was for transport use. On a rough road my lever can flop quite a bit, especially if you hit a frequency that reinforces itself and the last thing you want is for your loader to accidentally lower while travelling at road speed.

You would think they would have a lever to prevent the stick from moving at all. I flop it down when I'm mowing the grass because I tend to get pretty close to my lilac bushes (going forwards and backwards) and they can and have moved my bucket for me. At least it prevents it from moving in three directions.

Me, too, but it can be pretty obnoxious when your bucket "magically" winds up in a higher position than you expected when you're on steep hills. Not dropping the bucket is all well and good but having it raise up can be dangerous in its own way...

The L30's now have a locking lever that locks up all movement of the joystick. Very handy when your doing things around the tractor and your 2 year old is sitting in the seat mimicking everything I do when using the tractor. Other then when he's on it, I never use it. Rat...

Sounds very nice. Wonder if that would be enough to convince the CFO that I should upgrade to an L30... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

My control lever makes more noise rattling then the tractor's diesel engine. Does yours??

my 7800 did the same thing till i took off the cover and tightened the bolt/nut some more

My old L-3710 had the flap too. I used it when I had the loader dismounted from the tractor to hold the lever stationary. My 5030 has a lever mounted below the joystick in the cab that locks the stick from moving at all.

Yup, sure does (at idle, at least). I'm pretty used to it now, though...

My bx is pretty new, and the plate is butted on both ends by rubber bushings. Tighten the locknut a little, and it will stay wherever I push it to. Makes no racket at all. Now if I could shut up the brake lock pedal...............................

I just noticed yesterday while brush hoggin that the joystick was making all kinds of racket. I thought maybe it was related to me starting to use the tractor without the FEL attached. Of course, I had the flap down too and that's what it was rattling against.

That's all I used the one on my B2710 for, too.
