feeler guage

Just bought a feeler guage set and see there is one bronze or brass guage in the set. Can anyone enlighten me on the reason for that one guage that isn't made of steel? Thanks!

Brass is not Magnetic.

There are places in some industries that need non-magnetic feeler guages.

Depending on what the feeler gauge set you got is for it might be for points. You know, those annoying things you had to adjust all the time before they invented electronic ignitions.

Is the brass gauge 0.010"? That's the typical gap between the flywheel (with imbedded magnet) and coil on small two cycle engines (chainsaws) and between the pickup and rotor on the pointless ignition systems used in 1970's- 1990's automotive ignitions. A steel gauge sticks to the magnet and makes it difficult to judge the gap.

You are absolutley right... 010 it is. There is also one of the regular steel .010 guages as well. Thanks again.
