For what it's worth Grandpa said to scratch the blisters till they were open then wash your self with water from a black smiths quench tank.

Not sure where you will find a black smith when you need one.

Hot dang it, I'm scratching like nuts again! Lockhaven, I looked up that Jewelweed stuff but, being the 4th of July weekend, I hope to be over this misery by the time it would get to me. Thanks for the suggestion. I marked the page and will probably order some of that stuff next week anyway now that I know I not only get it but know I have it on my property. Thanks again to all. Ah, dang it, now I've scratched myself until I'm bleeding again!

My goodness Dargo, I can't believe you're still itching after 30 hours!!
Perhaps you missed my post (#26),-- Jewel Weed really works and it grows wherever poison ivy grows. No delivery time; Google it, see what it looks like and apply as I mentioned. If it were me, I'd be out with a flashlight. For comparison purposes, Jewel Weed works as well on ivy poisioning as Aloe Vera works for burns. Trust he good Lord to provide us with what we need.

Calamine lotion==worthless except for while you apply it. 2 seconds later & you might have not used it at all.

Prednisone was the steroid of choice when I had a bad case of poison oak 40 years ago & I see it still is. Won't cure you overnight, but it's better than taking 2 or 3 weeks. Besides sun exposure problems, it suppresses the immune system, making you more susceptible to infections and illness.

Good luck, man. This too, will pass.

Use a hair dryer it is the best relief from itching, it works very well! Last a fairly long time

Back in the 60's, we used "green soap" aka "tincture of green soap" on poison oak. It's a liquid, available in pharmacies, usually have to ask them to order you a bottle. I bought some ten years ago or so, and it only took a day for the druggist to get it in the store. It's effective in washing off the oils that cause the rash to spread.

That said, with the large amount of exposure you have, in addition to the green soap, I'd haul myself to the dr. Poison ivy/oak can quickly become systemic and that's pretty scary. A shot of cortisone will turn that around fast! Best of luck to you.

That's great. I was late clearing out the downed trees that had the poison ivy on them because, for the first time in 30 or 35 years, I've been down and feeling out with a systemic blood infection I got from not going to the Dr. about a seemingly minor cut on a toe that got badly infected. Clearing that wood was literally the first physical thing I'd done in nearly a month. Now the itching is nearly gone, but my toe is really sore, red and looks mad as H E doubletoothpics. I may need to look into that again. Literally, that blood infection was harder on me than when my appendix ruptured in the early 70's and I spent a full week in ICU.

As I walk off humming "The Old Gray Mare, She Ain't What She Used to Be...."

Ha, I forgot, since I've been down for so long, today is the day I'm supposed to open the pool for the wife and kids. I usually have that done a month ago by this time of the year. Such fun. Oh well, I'm quite sure many here have worse things.

Thanks for asking. That was far worse than I would have expected (my apologies now for even thinking 'wimp' before when someone had it). Fortunately, all gone but the memories; which will stick around for a long, long while. I even ordered an ap for my phone that supposedly identifies most trees, plants and vines in the U.S. If it's anything but Kudzu (yeah, got that crap too) or Honeysuckle, I steer clear of it now! :)
