In my precious post, I forgot to mention Aloe. That is probably the best topical relief. My wife has it growing in out in the garden; the fresh stuff is the best!

Find a product called "Ivy Dry" When i lived in MA I got it real bad and this is the only thing that dried it up. May sting some but worth the slight pain. Good luck !!

It doesn't bother me much for some reason. Once I was cleaning out an old shed and it had a bunch of vines growing up through the floor. It was hot and I was working without a shirt on. I pulled out all of the vines and put them on a fire. That evening when I showered I noticed a little redness on my chest but didn't give it much thought. Later that night my wife and I got romantic and I still didn't give it any thought. The next day the enire front of my wifes torso was broken out in a serious rash. It was so bad she had to go to the Dr. Her and the Dr. did a little deducing and quickly figured out the cause. :ashamed: Well, you can bet she remembered that for a long time.

I'm highly susceptible of poison ivy, have been my entire life.
I caught it so often in my youth, that the scratching must have destroyed most of the hair follicles on my legs as I have very sparse hair on them but normal amounts everywhere else.
Calamine lotion and Absorbing Junior were the weapons then; now I use Jewel weed, works great at cutting and neutralizing the Urushiol oil.
I keep the ivy at bay at my place, (the dog brings some from the neighbor's) and keep cultivated a large patch of jewel weed, an easy to grow weed also known as 'touch me not' as the seeds 'shoot' out when touched, pretty neat to walk through a patch at 'seeding' time.
It's free, just crush the stems and leaves in your hands until the sap makes it damp and rub it on, actually 'scratch' yourself with it.
Hope you find some growing nearby in a hurry.

The lye soap works but so will rubbing the open/weeping area with pinesol. The pinetar in it dries up the area in a day or two.

I have a RX steroid cream that really helps take the itching away.. also if you apply it soon enough it will help to keep the 'blisters' from forming..

Thanks all!! I've not ignored posts for the last few hours, I've been waiting in the Dr's office. I feel like a danged wimp; I just can't stop scratching! The darn Dr was in such a hurry he just called it "some sort of contact dermatitis" and sent me packing with a script for prednisone. Ahh, I feel like injesting said bottle right now!

I'm going to take a hot shower, for better or worse, and send my daughter out for about everything mentioned here that's over the counter. Gees, you'd think I would be smart enough to not poke my finger in my ear, nose and eyes! I seem to have it everywhere now. I suppose I'm paying for being too hard headed to go to the doc. I smashed my toe about a month ago (probably the only time I've entered my barn without steel toe footwear in 5 years and promptly dropped a piece of steel on my right big toe. I figured it would heal and let it go. Well, after almost a month, it apparently decided to move from my stupid toe into my blood. I just got some IV's and shots for that along with some stuff called ciprofloxacin. Now I'm just mixing that in with my prednisone and scratching away wondering if my toe is going to fall off. :(

Yeah, yeah, I know. You gotta be tough if you're gonna be stupid...

Free pot shots at me. I usually seem to like to argue. I feel so bad now I'll just agree with you. Time to go scratch some more...
