Well, I came out of the barn, and there is the FEDEX guy stuck at the top of the driveway, back end into the snow bank. He looked pretty despondent, this was his last drop off of the day and had just called for a heavy tow truck. I felt kind of sorry for the guy, so I started up the Kubota, put her in four wheel drive (chains already on) and headed out to the rescue. I hooked up the chain and let her rip. Well, it moved a couple of feet, tried it time and time again but couldn't get him up the hill. I thought it was odd that his back tire was rotating backwards when I pulled him forward. So I got off the tractor to talk to him. He finally agreed he should probably release the parking brake and try it again. What do you know, it came out like a charm. Something tells me he is new at this truck driving thing.

The problem is that FEDEX and UPS are merging and they have a lot of new drivers. The name of the new company is FED-UP. Ooooooh that's bad:D

Bet you'll never find soggy package from that driver after that good deed. :)

I drove for UPS one year and got stuck a few times. It doesn't take much for those tires to lose traction, or sink into the ground. One time I was driving back up a driveway on some rural property and I just slid a bit off the pavement. My tires spun and I slowly went back down the hill backwards. For the life of me, I couldn't get the tires that were spining to go back up onto the pavement. They just kept spinning and I was stuck. I thought about backing up and getting a running start, but after walking it, thought that would just make it worse.

The other time was very similar, but on a flat driveway that was barely wide enough for the tires. It was my fault, as I wondered off the pavement on one side and the tire just sank into the mud. I had just a few inches on either side to stay on the pavement, but for whatever reason, didn't do so.

Niether times did the homeowners come out or show up while I was there. Both times, UPS sent out other drivers to get a bunch of my packages while I waited for the tow truck. I left a note on the doors of the homes with the contact information and who to talk to about the damage to their yards. To my knowledge, none of them called, or at least my supervisor was never informed of any calls or complaints.

It happens, and it's both frustraiting and embarrasing. I'm sure the driver that you pulled out was appreciative. I know that I sure would have been.

I don't have any pictures to share, but I pulled the UPS truck out of our drive a few days ago. We've had an unusually snowy and cold 10 days in Kansas and all sorts of folks are getting stuck in the country. I used my L5030 to pull the truck out. The driver was extremely thankful. I get the impression that the drivers catch a load of crap from their supervisors and dispatchers if they get stuck.

Yeah, I worked for Fed-Ex for 1 yr. It's a crap job if you don't get a core dense route. I worked out in the boonies and usually had 100+ packages each day that were on avg 10-15 miles apart. I would leave at 7am and return 9am.

So yeah, when I see a UPS or Fed-Ex dude they have my upmost repect. I know how it is.

Couple of years ago Fedex got stuck in my drive.
Fired up my tractor, hooked a good chain and hauled him out.

Two days later a parcel was delivered at my door; it was a small gift pack (candies and such) in cute wire basket with a very nice thank you note from Fedex.

Absolutely floored me!

My impression from wording on the card was that it was a zone thing rather than the driver.

Note that we are 25 kms from nearest tow truck.
