Hello,
Posted this in another section before I saw this one, so I apoligise for the repost.
I'm looking for information on what to expect for wear parts/maintenance on a Fecon HD7460 Forestry head mulching attachement mounted on an ASV RC100 with the Forestry package. I am looking at renting one to clear about 40 acres of pasture on our farm that has 4-5" brush. Do I have the right set up?
My main concern is on the associated wear costs with the teeth and whatever else may come up. The rental place has replacement teeth for about $80 apiece and said theres 33 of them. Basic math says 2640 per set, but they couldn't tell me much about wear, I would imagine the operator has more to do with it than anything, but if your not a cowboy and run it like your paying for it can someone give me an idea what to reasobably expect for incidentals on something like this? I would have to think that in the grand scheme of things the ammount of work i will be doing is pretty minimal and I'm not going to go through a full set, however I'd hate to rent it and go through 2 sets. Any info is appreciated
Thanks

First off if you havn't ever ran a foresrty mulcher wouldn't recommend doing it yourself. Pay someone who is in this line of work, Depending on how thick the 40 acres is you'll probably spend more renting a skid steer with a head verse getting someone in there with a purpose built machine. Trust me skid steers aren't ment to be in this line of work 100% of the time. On average I can clear 1-11/2 acres a day in 6in. to 8in. trees any thinner progress just picks up have done 5 acres in a day but small 2in. brush, an this is making it look like a park when i finish you could take a lawn more over it. So go got to figure out wat you want it to look like want it to look good I can tell you now don't expect anything over 4 to 5 acres a day, unless your cutting grass. So 40/5 =8 on a good note times rental a day verse somone with a machine built for the task of clearing acres I think you'll find it will be cheaper in the long run to have a larger machine come in.
Because you want it to look like this a not like a bomb went off on your land cause it takes some getting use to. just my two cents:D
