A friend of mine was looking for options..... he has a problem with grease/dirt building up on control linkages, esp. at low temperatures.

My suggestion was these Dupont Multi-Use and Chainsaver spray products, that I've had good luck with:

DuPont 11 oz Teflon Multi-Use Lubricant

DuPont 11 oz Teflon Chain Saver

Anybody have other suggestions ? Grease gun options are welcome too.

PB blaster is always good. A few dollars extra but its worth it, and it should keep the dirt buildup to a minimum.

I have some PB on my bench, but have only used it a bit. Not sure how long it hangs in there, as a grease replacement ?

You've got me thinking though, along those lines...... ReleaseAll is a Canuck product, similar to PB (more lube properties than Water Dispersing 40). The best of this lighter stuff (lube wise) that I've tried is the red RustCheck spray - their green version would likely attract too much dirt.

Timely.... it was supposed to be -18C overnight, but it actually hit -30C  Wedder 4casting !

In my experience, the Dupont sprays I listed are fairly unique - they have a wax like (when dried) body to them, are a good lube, but attract almost no dirt. Tough hat-trick to pull off....

3930dave - I think those DuPont products are being marketed by Deere also, in case a Deere dealer is closer to the OP.

Thanks DM - do those cans have green wrappers, or are they the Dupont labels ?

Since posting the thread, I've confirmed with my buddy that I tossed him a can of the Multi-Use for his bench, back when I started using it.

Thanks for pointing that out. I like these Dupont products, but they are NOT widely distributed in Canada. My buddy buys all his "Bambi" parts at his local JD dealer, so this will be convenient for him. And, I can't picture the nearest to his neck of the woods Lowes off-hand....

I didn't read the label close enough to see if DuPont was referenced but yes, they are wrapped in Deere wrappers. I used for the joystick hydraulic actuator linkages. Then went on to garage door pins!

I started off using those Dupont sprays on motorcycle chain.

Worked well there, so I found other uses too. Garage doors being one of the first !

It would make sense for JD to stock these sprays.

Thanks again DM !

My buddy makes it to TBN once in a while, so I've sent him this link.

P.S. That description sure reads like the Dupont Multi-Use, I'll be surprised if they aren't JD's OEM on that.

Thanks all for finding a local source of a suitable lube. The intended use is on the hydro-drive linkages related to the pedals. They are currently suffering from summer dirt-filled lube behaving badly in the cold. (Think of cruise control with its own mind.)
JD is around the corner, but Lowes is hours away from my place.
Greg.
